Individual Therapy

Therapy is unique journey we undertake to gain a deeper awareness of who we are and why we struggle. As we explore and understand we find that we can let go of some things, and other things – somehow we experience them differently.

Frequently Asked Questions

I need help, but I’m not sure what to do. What is the next step?

Contact me – by email, text or phone. We can make a first appointment, which can be face-to-face or online, and discuss all the details you need to know.

I know I’m struggling with something but I’m not even sure what the problem is or how to talk about it. Can you help with this?

It’s very common to be unclear about exactly what we’re struggling with. The process of exploring together is a key part of helping to clarify the problem.

What will happen when we meet? How will the therapy work?

This is a very common question and people are often frustrated that there isn’t a straightforward answer. There isn’t a common structure or pathway. You just come and begin to express yourself in whatever way feels right, and as we talk the nature and direction of the work begins to unfold. Really the only way to understand how it works is through your experience of it. By the end of the first session you will begin to get a sense of this. By it’s nature, therapy is always something of a step into the unknown and this can feel a bit uncomfortable at times.

What if I say the wrong things, or if what I have to talk about is too difficult or shameful?

There are no right or wrong things to talk about. Whatever you bring I will treat with respect, compassion and without judgement.

How long will my therapy take?

It’s impossible to know at the beginning. As we explore the issues you bring the therapy will evolve and change direction at times. When you get to the point where you’ve got what you needed you will know, we will both feel the shift and will then work towards an ending.

Do I have to commit to a certain number of sessions?

Not at all. You are free to end our work together at any point.

How do I know I’m ready to do therapy?

If you’re asking that question then you are probably ready.

What is your training and experience?

I trained as a Transactional Analysis Psychotherapist in Leeds many years ago. It was a really thorough, excellent training that took 7 years to complete. I’ve been working as a therapist for over twenty years now and continue to explore and to learn. I have very good support through high quality supervision and various stimulating groups that I belong to.

Over the years I’ve been privileged to work with people aged from teens to eighties, from all kinds of social, cultural and racial backgrounds, of differing sexual orientations, neurotypes and physical capacities.
